Family father drowned while diving in the lake

Following the diving drama in Lake Traunsee, the first autopsy results are now available: Unsurprisingly, "death by drowning" was diagnosed. The judiciary is routinely investigating negligent homicide. 

"Death by drowning" - is how Wels public prosecutor Silke Enzlmüller describes the result of the autopsy of diver Johannes D. (44), who died in Lake Traunsee at the weekend. The judiciary is currently investigating suspected negligent homicide "against persons unknown". The fully recovered equipment is still being examined and toxicological findings are still pending.

Wife had panicked
On the day of the accident, the father from Steinhaus near Wels - he leaves behind an almost two-year-old daughter - had gone into the water near Traunkirchen together with his wife (36) and three other people.

In poor visibility, the group got lost and the wife panicked. The accident happened when they tried to help her or stop her from making an emergency ascent from a depth of just five meters.

Discovered by underwater drone
A diving instructor nearby was unable to find the body. It was discovered by a fire department underwater drone on Sunday at a depth of 70 meters, after a drag mark on a steep wall in the water had previously been noticed.
