Boulder broke out and hit climber’s sister

A fatal alpine accident on Tuesday in the Tyrolean lowlands: a boulder broke off while climbing in the Kaiser Mountains and fell on a 31-year-old German woman. The woman suffered serious injuries and had to be rescued by helicopter. Her brother (33) and another companion got off lightly or with a scare.

According to the police, the group of three wanted to climb to the summit of the Scheffauer via the Widauersteig. The 33-year-old German climbed ahead. At around 2.45 p.m., shortly before the finish, it happened.

A few meters below the exit, a stone measuring around 50 by 50 centimeters suddenly broke out.

His 31-year-old sister was worse off. She was hit by the boulder and suffered serious injuries as a result.

Siblings taken to hospital by helicopter
Their brother and another companion - a British woman (32), who was uninjured - made an emergency call. After first aid, the injured siblings were rescued by emergency helicopter and then flown to Kufstein District Hospital.
