Road cyclist (29) injured in collision with car

A racing cyclist (29) collided with a car driver (61) in Graz on Saturday. The cyclist suffered minor injuries and had to be taken to the UKH. There are different accounts of how the accident happened.

There was a crash in Graz-Andritz on Saturday morning. At around 10.15 a 61-year-old man from Graz was driving his car along Münkergasse - at the same time, a 29-year-old racing cyclist was on the footpath and cycle path heading north.

Injuries and property damage
The two road users collided at the cyclist crossing there. The racing cyclist fell and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Graz University Hospital and received outpatient treatment. Material damage was caused to both the car and the bike.

Braking no longer possible
There are contradictory statements regarding the exact course of the accident: the driver of the car stated that he had been traveling at walking speed and had not noticed any other road users. According to his own statements, the racing cyclist was traveling at around 25 km/h and was unable to brake in time due to the difficult visibility of the road.
