Car crashes into the Drau river: passer-by raises the alarm

A man had forgotten to put the handbrake on his car. The vehicle became independent and crashed into the Drau in Carinthia.

A 75-year-old man briefly got out of his car at the bus stop near the Annabrücke bridge in Grafenstein. The car then became unstable, rolled backwards over a steep meadow and plunged into the Drau. A passer-by immediately alerted the emergency services. "Fortunately, there was nobody in the car," said the police.

The vehicle had to be brought to the surface of the water using air cushions. It was then recovered from the Drau using a crane.
