Kilde: Serious setback on the road to a comeback

Bad news for ski star Aleksander Aamodt Kilde: The Norwegian had to go under the knife again and is now undergoing a course of antibiotics lasting several weeks, as he announced on Tuesday afternoon.

"I've had increasing pain in my operated shoulder in recent weeks, which felt like a normal reaction to the increased training load," Kilde wrote on Instagram. However, it was an "infection that has caused damage", according to the Norwegian, who added several photos to his post - including one with his fiancée Mikaela Shiffrin.

According to the Norwegian federation, Kilde had undergone surgery on his left shoulder in the USA the previous week, during which the infection was discovered. 

Six weeks of antibiotics
The 31-year-old will now be given antibiotics intravenously for six weeks "so that the infection disappears completely and the bone can smile again", said Kilde. After that, we will see what the next steps are.

This is a major setback in his rehab, but the Norwegian is "happy and grateful that I am surrounded by incredible, caring and brilliant people".

Serious crash in Wengen
Kilde crashed heavily in the downhill in Wengen in January and suffered serious injuries. Since then he has been working hard for his comeback to the World Cup circuit.
