Beggar loots purse and flees with pizza

A brazen thief was up to mischief in the Tyrolean lowlands at the weekend: The perpetrator pretended to be deaf in a pizzeria, begged for money from the diners and looted the waiter's wallet in an unobserved moment. After receiving the pizza he had ordered, he fled.

The stranger had already struck on Saturday evening. At around 8.30 p.m., the man marched into a pizzeria in Fieberbrunn (Kitzbühel district). There, he pretended to be deaf to the restaurant guests and staff, the police reported on Monday.

Several hundred euros stolen
"He then tried to persuade several diners to donate money and sign under the pretext of his need for help or deafness," the investigators describe. In an unobserved moment, the suspect then "probably stole a waiter's wallet that had been placed in the bar area and stole the cash in it, which amounted to a mid three-digit euro sum."

The suspect, who had left the restaurant in an unknown direction after receiving the pizza he had ordered in the meantime, left the waiter's wallet on a shelf in the dining room.

Description of the perpetrator

• Male, approx. 170 cm tall, corpulent, dark skin, dark short hair, dark clothing
• The man was carrying a folder about the size of an A4 and a kind of disabled person's pass.
