Priest from Waldviertel arrested for drugs

Drug investigators in Lower Austria have now made a special catch: a priest was arrested on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Act. 

The 29-year-old, who worked in the Waldviertel region, was immediately banned from any pastoral work by the church, as confirmed by the diocese. The priest in question was actually a priest of the diocese of Warsaw in Poland and had only been working in the diocese of St. Pölten for just under three years. "The responsible archbishop was therefore informed immediately and will take further steps," said church representatives.

Close cooperation with the police
The police investigation into this case has not yet been completed, it is said. No further details have been given so far, including the type of drugs involved.

Rumors are currently circulating in the Waldviertel, including that the man of God is said to have produced drugs himself. In any case, the diocese has promised to work closely with the law enforcement authorities "for a complete clarification of the offense".
