17-year-old ends up in a ditch with his convertible

A 17-year-old may have been driving too fast on Saturday evening in Upper Austria. The novice driver lost control at a traffic circle in Gschwandt and ended up in the ditch with his convertible.

The 17-year-old from Traun and his 19-year-old passenger were driving on Scharnsteinerstraße from Gmunden towards Gschwandt at around 9.15 p.m. on Saturday. According to the police, the owner of the probationary driver's license entered the Baumgarten traffic circle too quickly and lost control of his vehicle.

Crane lifted the car back onto the road
He left the road in his convertible, knocked over a street lamp and crashed over an embankment into the ditch. The Gmunden fire department had to use a crane to recover the totaled vehicle.

Two injured
The traffic circle was closed for around one and a half hours during the recovery work. Both vehicle occupants were taken to Vöcklabruck Hospital with minor injuries.
