Paraglider injures spine in crash

A serious paragliding accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the municipal area of the Tyrolean town of Imst. A 45-year-old Austrian crashed after take-off and seriously injured his spine. 

The local paraglider pilot took off at around 12 noon in the area of the Vorderer Alpjoch above the Hoch-Imst mountain station. Immediately after take-off, the 45-year-old then lost control of his paraglider and crashed onto a sloping meadow, suffering spinal injuries according to the police. 

Eyewitnesses and other paraglider pilots rushed to the man's aid and made an emergency call. The emergency helicopter flew the injured man to hospital in Zams.
