Midwife continues to work despite winning the lottery

Despite winning the lottery, Ruth Breen (45), a midwife from the UK, is sticking to her job. She won one million pounds (around 1.18 million euros) ten years ago, as the British news agency PA reported. "A lot has changed in the last ten years, and then not so much," said Breen. The profit has enabled her to reduce her working hours.

Working part-time has allowed her to spend more time with her daughter. "We've had great vacations, but we've tried to stay grounded, and I think work helps me do that," Breen said. Training to be a midwife was tough and she loves her job. She doesn't want to give that up and wants to be a role model for her daughter.

British woman also supports charity project
"I don't introduce myself and say: 'Oh by the way, I won a million ten years ago'," she said. She is treated like any other midwife by patients and colleagues. To mark the anniversary of her lottery win, she is supporting a charity project in the town of Wigan near Manchester that helps families with baby equipment.

Her first purchase after winning the lottery? It was shoes from designer Jimmy Choo. "I almost cried when I paid for them in Selfridges because I couldn't believe I had the money for them. It was a bit overwhelming," Breen said. "The collection is a bit bigger now. I don't cry as much anymore!"
