Drunk man hit by cab, thrown into field

A terrible accident in the Tyrolean lowlands on Sunday night: in Westendorf (Kitzbühel district), a drunk pedestrian was hit by a cab and catapulted into the adjacent field. The 64-year-old local suffered serious injuries.

The fatal accident happened at around 3.30 am. The taxi driver (74) was driving his vehicle on Windauer Straße (L204) from the center of Westendorf in the direction of Holzham. At the same time, the 64-year-old pedestrian was walking in the middle of the road, according to the police.

Poor visibility and rain
"The cab driver probably noticed the pedestrian too late due to the poor visibility caused by the darkness and the rain, as well as his dark clothing. There was a collision," reported the police.

The cab driver and a passenger immediately began first aid measures and set the rescue chain in motion.

Pedestrian heavily intoxicated
The emergency services finally took the injured man to Kufstein District Hospital. At the time of the accident, the pedestrian was considerably intoxicated, it was reported.
