Syrian attacks men with bottle and shard

A 28-year-old Syrian is said to have seriously injured two people in front of a pub at the Hallein town festival last Saturday. Witnesses detained the man, who tried to flee, until the police arrived.

The accused man from Hallein allegedly threw a beer bottle at the head of a security employee shortly after 2 a.m. and cut a bar owner with a piece of broken glass.

Both injured persons, a 34-year-old Bosnian and 42-year-old Serb, were taken to Salzburg University Hospital. The Syrian was detained by witnesses while trying to escape until the police arrived and was subsequently arrested.

According to witnesses, the accused had probably already been expelled from the bar before the incident due to his heavy intoxication. He will be charged at large.
