Love scam: Tyrolean woman loses over 100,000 euros

An online acquaintance ended in financial disaster for a 69-year-old Tyrolean woman: a fraudster cleverly courted the woman's affections via a dating platform and tricked her out of more than 100,000 euros with lies. 

Between 2021 and 2024, a previously unknown perpetrator used false promises of love to trick a woman from Innsbruck into making several bank transfers. "The woman transferred a total amount in the low six-figure euro range", according to the police.

When the Tyrolean woman was again asked to transfer several thousand euros, otherwise her photos would be published, she filed a complaint with the police.
