Bruckner dreams at the organ – and raps

Is Bruckner's music a dream or a nightmare? Young soloists joined the Symphonic Orchestra of the City of Linz Music School in a concert at the Brucknerhaus. Rapper Yasmo was also inspired by Bruckner: A great moment for young music!

The setting alone is unique: the City of Linz Music School commissioned five composers, including renowned names such as Kurt Schwertsik and Otto Lechner. The five world premieres relating to Anton Bruckner's music were performed by music students - orchestra and soloists - in a brilliant concert at the Brucknerhaus in Linz. Conductor Ingo Ingensand also contributed a work from his own pen as an encore.

Bruckner falls asleep at the organ
In "Gracchus", a concerto for accordion (Samuel Lonsing) and orchestra, Otto Lechner explored not only Bruckner but also Kafka's work "The Hunter Gracchus", a disturbing tale about someone who cannot be dead and not alive.

In the organ concerto "GEBILDEentrückt", Tanja Elisa Glinsner turned her attention to the case of Bruckner falling asleep at the organ (soloist: Riccarda Fuchs), while Julia Lachersdorfer posed little challenge to the highly talented soloist Ida Gillesberger in the violin concerto "Ursuppe".

Schwertsik and the dream
The 89-year-old Kurt Schwertsik demonstrated humor and depth in the bassoon concerto "Traum/geträumt" (excellent soloist: Simeon Körber) - a highlight, as was the concerto for saxophone (great: F. Xaver Gumpenberger) and orchestra by Johanna Doderer. Exciting and innovative!

Bruckner slam
Peter Kislinger and the rapper Yasmo - an award-winning slam poet - were asked to formulate spontaneous comments on the world premieres. While Yasmo expressed associations, Peter Kislinger (who worked for Ö1 for decades) approached the auditory impressions as a connoisseur in the sense of Adorno. Two completely different ways of approaching Bruckner. The music school's contribution to the Bruckner Year 2024 is a success!
