Young moped rider (16) crashed under slurry tanker

A 16-year-old boy was so injured in a dangerous accident on his moped in the Mühlviertel that he had to be taken to hospital. However, he was probably lucky to be alive at all. The two-wheeler rider crashed under a manure barrel that a farmer had pulled with his tractor.

The 16-year-old from Hellmonsödt was riding his moped in the village of Ruderbach (municipality of Sonnberg/M.) on a goods road from Hellmonsödt towards Zwettl an der Rodl shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday. There were two cars in front of him, driven by a 28-year-old and a 44-year-old respectively.

Attempt to swerve
As a tractor with a slurry tanker, driven by a 38-year-old from Sonnberg, was approaching in oncoming traffic, both drivers stopped. Unfortunately, the 16-year-old probably noticed this too late. He tried to swerve out of the way and ended up in oncoming traffic.

Severely shocked
The moped rider crashed and came to rest under the slurry tanker. The badly shocked and injured 16-year-old was unable to tell the emergency services whether he had been run over by the slurry tanker. The boy was transported to the accident hospital in Linz.
