Vice world champion: “Unfortunately, it doesn’t make sense”

He is a master baker, Instagram star, runner-up world champion in the Supermoto class - and unfortunately still not fit after a very bitter winter with two operations. Which is why Lukas Höllbacher from Ranshofen has now had to make a drastic decision.

After being crowned runner-up in the "supreme discipline" of Supermoto in 2023, Lukas Höllbacher actually wanted to go all out this year and even bring the World Championship title to Ranshofen. Unfortunately, things turned out very, very differently than the full-time master baker had imagined.

Two operations in winter
After an unavoidable intervertebral disc operation in December, which left his right leg paralyzed due to complications, he also suffered a serious shoulder injury during a training ride in January. Six months later, the 28-year-old, who is a real Instagram star with 150,000 followers, is still a long way from an early return to the slopes. Even though he got back on his bike for the first time last weekend.

No end to his career
"Unfortunately, it doesn't make sense for me or for sponsors," says Höllbacher, emphasizing that he is still not completely fit. "I want to get completely healthy now and not make it worse permanently with a hasty comeback!" However, there is no question of ending his career; next year he wants to attack again at full speed.
