Seriously injured person rescued from mountain during hail

The Styrian mountain rescuers once again did a great job on Saturday: the violent storms had put hikers in the Hochschwab region in an extremely unfortunate situation. One of them was seriously injured and at the same time hailstones were falling. They were all rescued.

On Saturday afternoon, a group of nine hikers were on their way from Hackentörl to Hackenalm in Seewiesen when one of them seriously injured his leg. His companions immediately made an emergency call. Everything had to happen quickly, because the next challenge was already looming in the sky: A hailstorm was approaching!

Rescue helicopter deployed
The Turnau mountain rescue team and fire department set off, and the Christophorus 17 rescue helicopter was also deployed. But shortly afterwards, hail and heavy rain fell, making the rescue operation a mammoth task for the eight mountain rescuers.

All the hikers were rescued
Once at the scene of the accident, the seriously injured person received emergency medical treatment and was taken down the mountain to a hospital. The rest of the hiking group also arrived safely in the valley. The firefighters then took them back to their vehicles.
