Car burst into flames in the middle of Dornbirn

Spectacular scenes took place early Thursday evening in the center of Dornbirn: After a loud bang, the vehicle of a 57-year-old woman caught fire - fortunately, a driver who was trying to escape reacted with presence of mind.

The driver was driving in the direction of Hohenems at around 5 p.m. when she suddenly heard a loud bang near the Dornbirn indoor swimming pool, and shortly afterwards smoke was already coming out of the engine compartment.

An oncoming driver reacted in a textbook manner: he also stopped his car, grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the flames that were already flaring up - the fire department, which arrived shortly afterwards, only had to clear up the scene.

No people were injured in the incident. The vehicle fire was probably caused by a technical defect
