Gift from Castro: Lollobrigida’s watch sold at auction

Hundreds of items belonging to the film diva Gina Lollobrigida, who died last year, have been auctioned off in Italy. The wristwatch that Cuba's revolutionary leader Fidel Castro once gave Lollobrigida went under the hammer for 18,850 euros, according to the auction house Wannenes. 

All 410 items offered at the auction in Genoa, which lasted more than ten hours, were sold for a total of 1.14 million euros including fees.

Hundreds of pieces under the hammer
According to the auction house, a bronze sculpture by the artist Giacomo Manzù depicting Lollobrigida was purchased by a bidder for 125,100 euros.

A lavishly decorated Sicilian wooden cabinet with coral and tortoiseshell inlays went for 118,250 euros. A gold ring with an emerald and diamonds went for 9,475 euros.

Leaving debts behind
It is unclear exactly what will happen to the proceeds. According to media reports, the Italian actress is said to have left behind debts. The remainder is to be divided between the two quarrelling heirs, Lollobrigida's son Milko Skofic and her long-time assistant and companion, Andrea Piazzolla.
