Wildcard for Mallorca

Thiem to play in the “place of destiny” in June

Not much is known yet about Dominic Thiem's other planned tournament appearances, but the Lower Austrian's appearance at the ATP tennis tournament on Mallorca from June 22nd is certain. The former US Open winner, who will end his career this year, has been given a wildcard for the main event.

It was at this tournament on June 22, 2021 that Thiem suffered the wrist injury that has since affected him so much that he has never been able to regain his level of performance.

"Don't think about the injury"
"I'm really looking forward to playing in Mallorca again. When I take to the court there, I certainly won't be thinking about the injury, but the numerous positive things that I associate with Mallorca will outweigh it," Thiem is quoted as saying in a press release. The injury happened three years ago in the opening match against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.

Thiem is hoping for "the support of many Austrian fans who are spending their vacation on Mallorca during the week of the tournament". The tournament organizer is Edwin Weindorfer, who is also delighted that Sebastian Ofner will be taking part.
