Bim construction sites: No funding for entrepreneurs

An entrepreneur on Wiedner Hauptstraße fears for his turnover. The reason is the months-long construction site. But there is no funding.

Wiedner Hauptstraße will be climate-ready by November. However, this good news is also associated with construction sites, which are divided into seven sections. One of the businessmen affected is Simon Danho.

Pandemic, inflation, then building site
Seven years ago, he took over the traditional household store "Zur goldenen Kugel", saved it from closure and survived the inflation. "And now I have the building site on my doorstep," says Danho.

The streetcars have been stopped, only local residents are allowed in. The 56-year-old fears for his customers. He has applied for subsidies, but has been turned down by the business agency.

Subway construction site a special case
There is, however, support for businesses along the subway construction sites. However, he is located at a streetcar construction site. According to the business agency, the subway construction is a special case, but Wiedner Hauptstraße is not.

To date, 2.1 million euros have been paid out in support. An injustice for Danho, who hopes not to have to lay off any employees.

Sidewalks too narrow
Passers-by are also concerned about the construction site, as the sidewalks are too narrow and speeding cyclists and scooter drivers are endangering them and the construction workers.
