“Had the chance”: Marko explains Schumacher veto

Red Bull Motorsport boss Helmut Marko has explained why he vetoed the signing of Mick Schumacher. The German had his chance, but it would not have been a good fit, the 81-year-old coolly concludes. There were probably even two rejections in a row.

He is a very eloquent, well-mannered and polite young man who had his chances. In terms of age and the whole previous history as a Ferrari Junior, it just didn't fit," Marko told "formel1.de", explaining his veto against signing Schumacher.

The Austrian had already decided against the German in 2023 and again this summer. There was simply no room for Schumacher at Racing Bulls. "This has nothing to do with him personally," assures Marko.

Promising talents
The Bulls are to be built up as a junior team. This year, the cockpits are occupied by 31-year-old Daniel Ricciardo and 24-year-old Yuki Tsunoda. Above all, however, they are building on the future of young drivers.

"With Liam Lawson, we have a very good junior in the queue. We have Isack Hadjar in Formula 2, who is absolutely at the front. And we have 16-year-old Arvid Lindblad in Formula 3. We are very well positioned," says a satisfied Marko. A Schumacher would not have made sense in this concept.
