Salzburgers drive 26 minutes to work

According to data from the mobility organization VCÖ, 56 percent of Salzburg residents work outside their home town. Their commute to work takes 26 minutes on average. Six out of ten Salzburgers travel to work by car.

56 percent of employees in Salzburg work away from home, with the average commute taking 26 minutes. Four out of ten commutes are made by public transport, bicycle or on foot. 

Of the approximately 294,000 people in employment in Salzburg, eleven percent work from home and 33 percent in their place of residence. This means that over half of the working population commute to another municipality, another district or outside Salzburg.

In the city of Salzburg, 64 percent of commutes are car-free, with 37 percent being made by bicycle and 31 percent by car.

In the district of Salzburg Umgebung, 36 percent of journeys to work are made car-free, followed by Hallein (35 percent), Zell am See (26 percent), St. Johann im Pongau (24 percent) and Tamsweg (20 percent).
