Delivery van rammed by train and completely destroyed

A terrible train accident occurred on the German shore of Lake Constance on Wednesday. A regional train hit a delivery van between Überlingen-Nussdorf and Oberuhldingen and pushed the vehicle a good 300 meters in front of it before the train came to a standstill. All help came too late for the van driver, who died at the scene of the accident.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, a serious collision occurred at the Untermaurach level crossing between Überlingen-Nussdorf and Oberuhldingen between a regional train traveling from Überlingen towards Friedrichshafen and a delivery van on the unrestricted level crossing.

The driver, who was alone in the van, was fatally injured in the collision and ejected from his vehicle. The fire department found the van trapped under the railcar, as the train had pushed the vehicle a good 300 meters in front of it.

The passengers on the train and the train operating personnel were not physically injured in the accident. The accident site was located directly below the Birnau monastery church and could only be reached via a narrow farm track.
