GAK coach extended? Decision made

With his return to the Bundesliga, GAK coach Gernot Messner has made a great success of his mission with the Red Jackets. Although, curiously, not all the hearts of the fans in Graz are flying towards him, the neo-Bundesliga club has now made a decision on whether the promoted coach will stay on. The extension is now official.

The die is cast! As the Krone had already reported this morning, the GAK has reached an agreement with coaching hero Gernot Messner for a further, longer-term collaboration. Messner signed a contract for the 2024/25 season with an option for a further year. Assistant coach Christoph Cemernjak also extended his contract at the Mur. The successful duo will therefore also work together on the task of establishing GAK in the Bundesliga.

"Working with GAK has become a matter close to my heart. We have experienced highs and lows together and have always continued to develop. This contract extension is a vote of confidence that I greatly appreciate. My goal is to establish GAK in the Bundesliga and make it a permanent fixture in the top flight in the long term," Messner said in the club statement. "Gernot has proven to be a true leader who not only impresses with his professional expertise, but also with his human nature. His philosophy has had a lasting impact on GAK and laid the foundations for promotion to the Bundesliga," added Didi Elsneg, Head of Sport.
