Caught drug driver was as tight as a donkey

A driver under the influence of drugs was caught by the police in Wels on Thursday night. The 27-year-old drove through a red junction, ignored the officers' attempts to stop him and finally pretended to be someone else. The police officers took the ignition key from him.

After a police patrol noticed a car crossing a junction in Wels at around 9.45 p.m. on Wednesday when the light was red, they stopped the car. Despite several clear signs to stop, the driver continued unperturbed. At one point he came too far to the right, so that he drove onto the sidewalk and was only able to avoid a collision with the fence there by jerkily steering in the opposite direction.

No driver's license
He stopped at a petrol station and the police were able to carry out a check. The driver, a 27-year-old from the Vöcklabruck district, immediately stated that he did not have a driver's license or any identification.

And false identity
He gave the officers a false name and a false date of birth and only revealed his true identity after being threatened with arrest. Because the 27-year-old showed clear symptoms that indicated drug impairment, he was asked to undergo a clinical examination.
Keys taken away
He refused and stated that he was in a substitution program. The police officers took the car keys from him. He was reported to the police.
