Road cyclist crashes into car door: seriously injured

It's every cyclist's nightmare what happened to a 28-year-old female racing cyclist in Buch in the Tyrolean district of Schwaz on Wednesday: the local woman was surprised by a car door opening and was unable to brake in time. 

The accident occurred in the afternoon at around 2.30 p.m. on the municipal road in Buch. A 59-year-old driver stopped at the level of a house to let his passenger (46) out of the car. Just as he was about to open the door, the racing cyclist wanted to pass the car. The 28-year-old braked hard, but was unable to prevent herself from crashing into the car door.

The impact caused the cyclist to be thrown into the adjacent field. She suffered serious injuries to her left hand. After first aid, the ambulance took the woman to hospital in Schwaz. The two car occupants remained uninjured.
