Seven percent have bought cannabis seeds

Since cannabis was legalized on 1 April, seven percent of respondents in Germany have bought seeds (see video above). Another eleven percent still plan to do so, according to a representative survey by the opinion research institute YouGov.

Among those who buy cannabis seeds for private cultivation are mainly young people between the ages of 18 and 34. Three plants per person may be grown, with the exception of allotments, and the seeds, plants and harvested cannabis must be protected against theft and from children. Lockable cupboards and rooms are required for this purpose.

Since April 1, the possession and consumption of cannabis has been legal for adults in Germany. Up to 50 grams may be kept at home, while citizens may have a maximum of 25 grams with them when out and about. This is explicitly for personal use; distribution and sale remain prohibited. 

Many exceptions
However, a ban on cannabis can be stipulated in the house rules. Deutsche Bahn, for example, makes use of this. In addition, it is not permitted to smoke weed near children and young people, schools, kindergartens, playgrounds and sports grounds. Pedestrian zones are also prohibited during the day. Violations are punished with fines.
