Verstappen: “It’s often not in your own hands”

World champion Max Verstappen is certain that Nico Hülkenberg made the right decision in switching to the Sauber racing team. The German is a very good driver who has often had bad luck. Some things, such as a change, are not always in his own hands, emphasizes the Dutchman.

"I think it's better to change less often. But sometimes it's also out of your control," explains Verstappen with regard to Hülkenberg's upcoming switch to the Sauber racing team. At the same time, he is also fueling rumors about his own future. There is still talk that the world champion could leave Red Bull prematurely.

Hülkenberg's move from Haas to Sauber, which will be the official Audi works team in Formula 1 from 2026, is already certain. "I'm very happy for him that he will be driving in Formula 1 for at least two more years. He absolutely deserves it," summarizes Verstappen.

A win-win situation for both sides
The Dutchman is certain that it was the right decision for both sides: "I think it's always good to have a driver like Nico in the car rather than a rookie." The German brings a lot of experience with him, which makes it much easier for Audi to get started. "So I absolutely understand why Audi chose him and also why Nico chose Audi," said the world champion.

Verstappen also regrets that the German has never finished on the podium in his 209 races to date. "Nico is a very good driver. At certain times in his career, he has perhaps been a little unlucky, where he should perhaps have been on the podium and then it just didn't work out." Maybe that will change with his new team.
