Wind mast on Lehmberg toppled over: Investigation
A mast for wind measurements, which was erected in preparation for a possible wind farm on the Lehmberg (Flachgau), has been brought down by unknown persons. Nothing was initially known about the reasons behind the crime.
The strangers cut the tensioning cables of the 80-meter-high measuring system in the municipal area of Neumarkt am Wallersee. This caused the mast to topple, the police described the course of events. The perpetrators then broke open a technical container and set fire to it. The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department. The total damage is estimated at around 150,000 euros.
The wind measurements for the Lehmberg project by Salzburg AG and Wien Energie have been running since the end of 2023, and the initial results have given the project operators cause for optimism.
Preparation of the submission documents for the EIA is set to begin this summer and the application itself could be submitted in 2025.
