Bernhard Auinger has been Mayor of the City of Salzburg since exactly 9.13 am. The Social Democrat has thus reached the pinnacle of his political career to date and intends to focus on housing and transport over the next five years.

After around an hour, all members of Salzburg's municipal council and city government were sworn in on Wednesday. In the first speeches by Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) and Mayor Bernhard Auinger, one motto for the future was emphasized: Put what we have in common before what divides us.

Auinger is also keeping the door open for his deputy Florian Kreibich (ÖVP). The People's Party did not support the government's negotiated labor agreement.
