Knife attack on hospital: at least ten dead

According to state media, several people have been killed and injured in a knife attack on a hospital in China.

According to the police in Zhenxiong County on Tuesday afternoon (local time), a man attacked people in the hospital with a knife a few hours earlier. Two people died and 21 others were injured. The man was reportedly from a village in the county, which is located in the north of Sichuan province.

The authorities did not provide any further information about the perpetrator or the victims. The state news agency Xinhua had previously reported at least ten victims. However, it was initially unclear how many people were injured or died. The report also did not initially provide any information on the suspected perpetrator.

Investigation underway
According to Xinhua, the attack happened in the early afternoon (local time). However, the police said it was shortly before midday. On Weibo, China's X platform (formerly Twitter), users shared videos showing the arrest of the suspected perpetrator. Other videos or photos showed people bleeding on the ground. According to the police, the injured were treated in hospital. Investigators opened an inquiry into the case.
