Eurofighter practiced interception maneuvers

Who heard it: Two Eurofighters of the Austrian Armed Forces practiced a supersonic flight over Carinthia. The resulting sound wave produced the typical "bang".

The Eurofighter pilots practiced intercepting a suspicious aircraft between Mauterndorf and Hirt in a manoeuvre on Monday morning. The aircraft were flying at speeds of up to 2000 kilometers per hour and broke the sound barrier. The sound wave was clearly audible for the residents in the region. 

Appropriate training is required for a supersonic flight, which is why such scenarios are practiced regularly. In the past few days, training has repeatedly taken place in Austrian airspace. The flights take place over sparsely populated areas and not during rest periods in order to keep noise pollution to a minimum.
