German Bundesliga
Hoffenheim vs RB Leipzig – LIVE from 20:30
RB Leipzig missed out on a leap to third place in Germany's Bundesliga with a 1-1 draw at TSG Hoffenheim on Friday evening! The absence of Xaver Schlager, who had to leave the field after a quarter of an hour with a knee injury, was a cause for concern.
The Austria team player slipped in a running duel with Andrej Kramaric without the opponent's intervention and grabbed his already bandaged left knee. After lengthy treatment, Schlager was able to leave the pitch unassisted, but the exact extent of the injury was initially unclear.
European Championship in Germany in danger?
RB coach Marco Rose gave DAZN the all-clear after the match. "He's fine for now," said Rose. It did not affect the knee where Schlager had already torn a cruciate ligament. "Nevertheless, we have to examine it tomorrow to get clarity." If Schlager has suffered a more serious injury, his participation in the European Championships in Germany, which start in six weeks' time, is in jeopardy. Nicolas Seiwald came into the game for Schlager.
Benjamin Sesko finally put Leipzig ahead in the 38th minute. Christoph Baumgartner was substituted for the goalscorer after an hour, but after Xavi Simons was shown a yellow card (72'), the Saxons were playing short-handed. Kramaric headed Hoffenheim to a point.
Florian Grillitsch was back in defense for the visitors. Leipzig remain fourth in the table with 63 points behind VfB Stuttgart (64). The Swabians will host second-placed Bayern Munich (69) on Saturday.
