Basement as source of fire
Mother and child rescued from burning house
On Tuesday night, a fire broke out in the basement of a terraced house on Goldschneiderhofweg in Salzburg City. The smoke quickly spread through the house. The occupants - a mother and her child - could therefore only be rescued from the burning house with escape filter masks.
The fire was first noticed by the homeowner and father of the family. He had noticed the outbreak of the fire, but underestimated how quickly it would spread.
He alerted the fire department immediately, as the thick clouds of smoke quickly spread throughout the house and his wife and child were still in the building.
When the emergency services arrived, the father of the family also helped to instruct the firefighters. He told the firefighters exactly where his wife and child were in the house.
The mother and child were then brought out of the house safely and unharmed, according to Horst Reiter, head of operations.
