Town square becomes the big stage for the European Championship stars

The European Football Championship starts on June 14 and Wels will be there live. The largest public viewing event in Wels' history will take place for a month. The town square will be closed off during the Austrian team's matches and will offer space for 3,000 soccer fans. 

The European Football Championship kicks off in Germany in 45 days' time. "For this major event, we have planned the largest public viewing event in the history of the city and the largest in Upper Austria," says Wels Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP), who is looking forward to the 31-day mega event.

"Watching a major sporting event together simply brings people together. I am particularly pleased that many restaurateurs are also taking part and treating the soccer fans to culinary delights."

From day one on June 14 until the final whistle on July 14, every match on Minoritenplatz will be broadcast live on a large LED screen. City marketing manager Peter Jungreithmair is expecting many spectators, especially for the matches involving Croatia, Turkey, Serbia, Hungary, Romania and Albania.

During the Austrian team's matches, the town square will be transformed into a European Championship stage with seating for 3,000 spectators. The supporting program also promises a great atmosphere.

Free beer at the red-white-red goal
In addition to many competitions on site, there will be a 50-liter keg of Budweiser beer for every goal scored by the national team. Outside of the party mile in the city center, restaurateurs will also be offering EM specials. Some pubs will be giving their guests a free beer when our team scores a goal.
