Vienna’s Austria remains a mystery rally

Bad luck? Weak referees? Pure naivety? Lack of class to thwart deep-lying opponents? Too few so-called difference players? The multi-part Austria series entitled "How not to win games" offers many starting points.

The fact is that coach Michael Wimmer and his players were perplexed and stunned after the 2:2 draw against Altach. "It feels like we've lost 3-0," said captain Manfred Fischer. "The final whistle pulled the rug out from under my feet." Fischer & Co. "understood one hundred percent" the whistles from the more than 11,000 fans.

"That doesn't go through my head"
Austria could not be accused of a lack of commitment. But Wimmer was really annoyed at how naively they gave away the lead twice within a few minutes: "I can't get my head around that. The behavior in the minutes after our goals is not acceptable. Period." Johannes Handl is less annoyed by the impact on the table than "the setback for the development of the team".

Positive: Fisnik Asllani returned after a tough injury break with a super header. And for the Austria women's cup final in Wiener Neustadt on May 9, the away block is sold out for the time being with 900 fans. However, further allotments are to follow.
