Reported to the police: Child caused forest fire
The firefighting operation that kept around 20 firefighters on their toes in a small wooded area in Karres (Imst district) on Saturday morning has probably been cleared up. According to the police, a child was probably responsible for the fire. It reported itself to the police.
Residents reported the fire to the police in the late morning. They had discovered thick clouds of smoke in a wooded area. A short time later, the Karres volunteer fire department arrived with 20 firefighters and the "Libelle" police helicopter. The fire, which was spread over a few square meters, was quickly extinguished.
The site is usually frequented by children playing. In this case, too, children were probably there beforehand. On Saturday evening, long after the fire had been extinguished, a child contacted the police. Accompanied by his mother, he confessed that he had built a small campfire at this spot.
He had extinguished the fire by beating it out and covered the spot with boards. She had not considered that the hot ashes could ignite.
