After 2:0 at Chelsea
Barcelona women in the Champions League final
FC Barcelona have retained their chance of successfully defending their title in the Women's Champions League. The Spanish champions advanced to the final after all with a 2:0 away win at Chelsea in the second leg at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Last week, the Catalans had surprisingly lost the first semi-final match 1-0. World Player of the Year Aitana Bonmati (25th) and Fridolina Rolfö (75th/penalty) secured the win.
Either Paris St. Germain or Olympique Lyon, who twice showed Austria's serial champions SKN St. Pölten the limits in the group stage, await in the final on May 25 (18:00) in Bilbao. Lyon won the first match 3-2 after trailing 2-0. The decider will follow on Sunday (16:00) in Paris.
Bonmati opened the scoring in the 25th minute after a pass from Patri Guijarro. It was the latter who was fouled by Chelsea defender Kadeisha Buchanan in the 59th minute, after which the Londoners had to play on short-handed due to a yellow card. Doubly bitter: Sjoeke Nüsken had hit the bar shortly before (57'). Extra time came to nothing as Jessica Carter brought down Bonmati in the penalty area and Rolfö confidently converted the spot-kick in heavy rain. The hosts' final offensive went unrewarded.
With 39,398 spectators, Chelsea's men's home ground was better attended than ever before for a women's match. The women's team usually play at Kingston, which has a capacity of 4,350.
