“It’s the number one topic of conversation in the city!

After fan bus trips, public viewings and record-breaking spectator numbers, the second Bundesliga final series between Mistelbach and Deutsch Wagram comes to an end this weekend. Mustangs coach Weissenböck believes in another record and is banking on home court advantage for the win.

The fans have flocked to the two finals of the second basketball league so far. And so far, the fans of Mistelbach and Deutsch Wagram have been able to cheer once each. In the deciding game on Saturday, however, there will only be reason for one side to celebrate. "Now, of course, it's all to play for. We hope that we are the ones who can celebrate twice in the series!", laughs Mistelbach coach Martin Weissenböck.

The former Bundesliga player is expecting another record crowd for the basketball highlight of the year in the Weinviertel: "There were 700 at the home opener and around the same in the second game in Deutsch Wagram. But you can tell that the euphoria has risen even more due to all the hype. It's definitely the number one topic of conversation in the city. That's why we're expecting 200 more!" That would be 900 spectators for a second division match, which should be another record, right? "I'm sure of that. No matter who wins the title race in the end, basketball has definitely already won!"

Sounds romantic at first. But having to congratulate Deutsch Wagram on becoming champions in front of such a backdrop is less so. "Of course we want to avoid that," smiles Weissenböck, "We have to take ourselves by the nose again. Perhaps we felt a little too confident away from home. But at home the world looks different again. With our fans behind us, it will work this year!" This year because it just didn't work out last year. And if it doesn't work out this year, then next year all good things come in threes.
