Even five years after ending her career, the 39-year-old American is still struggling with the physical consequences of the sport. "When you work and invest like that, it has an impact on your body. Hopefully nobody has as much pain as I do," said Vonn in an interview with "Sport1".

Vonn, who ended her career in 2019 after three Olympic medals and two World Championship titles, recently had an artificial knee joint fitted, but she will never be pain-free again, she knows. "Unfortunately, that's the price of top-class sport, every athlete knows that. When you have such a long career and give so much and have a lot of injuries - and I really have had a lot."
