Comes from France
Official: First VSV newcomer used to play in the NHL
What the "Krone" had already announced at the end of February is now official: forward Nikita Scherbak is moving to VSV. The 28-year-old Russian has recently scored well in France with Angers and has also played 37 NHL games in his career.
The coaching search is still ongoing in Villach - but at least the Eagles have now announced their first legionnaire. Nikita Scherbak is a 28-year-old winger who was drafted by Montreal in round one of the 2014 NHL Draft. The Russian also played a total of 37 games in the world's best league for Montreal and the LA Kings, scoring six goals in the NHL.
Top at Angers
Scherbak then played in top leagues such as the AHL, KHL, Slovakia and the Czech Republic before moving to Angers in France in the pre-season. There he recorded a strong 50 points (including twelve goals) in 47 games.
"Watched for years"
"We've been watching Scherbak for several years and see a lot of potential in him. He's also at the best age for ice hockey. Nikita is not a typical Russian ice hockey player, but is much more North American in his style of play. He also impresses as a tall forward who is physically very robust and has absolute playmaking qualities," emphasizes VSV team manager Andreas Napokoj.
