Schmid has to miss the Olympics due to shoulder surgery!
Wrestler Aker Schmid's participation in the Olympic Games in Paris has been ruined!
As the national federation announced on Thursday, the 24-year-old suffered a new injury to his left shoulder at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Baku at the beginning of April and will have to undergo an operation.
Born in Iraq, Schmid took part in the 2021 Games in Tokyo under his birth name Al Obaidi under the flag of the International Refugee Team and was eliminated in the quarter-finals in the Greco-Roman up to 67 kg category.

"It's a great pity for him, he invested a lot and was well on his way to qualifying," said ÖRSV sports director Benedikt Ernst. After his operation, Schmid had to be carefully introduced to the strain again, then nothing would stand in the way of success in principle. "Many examples have shown that you can wrestle again after such an injury," emphasized Ernst.
