In banana boxes
Cocaine found in eleven German supermarkets
Police discovered several packages of cocaine in various supermarkets in Berlin and Brandenburg on Thursday morning. A total of four markets in different districts of Brandenburg and seven markets in Berlin were affected, according to a police spokeswoman in Potsdam.
The officers were informed by employees of the stores in the morning. The packages were found in banana boxes among the fruit. A quick test confirmed the suspicion of cocaine in the afternoon, but the officers left the quantity of the addictive drug open. According to reports, Lidl stores in particular were affected.
"Absolute cocaine glut for years"
Meanwhile, the police union expressed little surprise at the discovery. It is not surprising "that every now and then a delivery goes missing and ends up in the supermarket, especially as fruit crates are quite popular anyway", said the Berlin regional head of the police union, Stephan Weh, on Thursday. "We have been experiencing an absolute glut of cocaine for years."
