Thiem posts with Alaba for Instagram
Two true Austrian sporting greats came together: Dominic Thiem used his trip to Madrid to meet David Aalba.
Both obviously in a good mood, both in tracksuits, both smiling - David Alaba and Dominic Thiem were very casual for a crisp Insta-Stroy. Alaba garnished the photo with a red-white-red flag symbol and a heart with a link to Thiem at the same time - it doesn't get any more heartwarming than that.
Out in the qualifiers
Hopefully Alaba has cheered Thiem up a little. Austria's long-time tennis figurehead failed to qualify for the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid on Tuesday.
After his opening win over Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Alves, the Lower Austrian was clearly beaten 1:6, 3:6 by Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second and final qualifying round.
