Retaliatory strike
Israel apparently hit air defense radar
The Israeli retaliatory strike last Friday has apparently caused more damage in Iran than the mullah regime wants to admit. Satellite images that have now been published are said to prove that an air defense radar system was hit in Isfahan.
The images from Planet Labs PBC show clear traces of fire around a so-called hinged-cap radar system, which is used for Russian S-300 interceptor missiles. "This strike shows that Israel is capable of penetrating the Iranian air defense system. The precision with which this was done is quite remarkable," Nicole Grajewski, a nuclear program associate at the Carnegie Endowment, told the news magazine "Spiegel".
Israel's military strike followed an attack by Iran on Israel with more than 300 drones and missiles on April 13. This was preceded by the death of two Iranian generals in an attack on an embassy building in the Syrian capital Damascus. This attack was attributed to Israel. It is a long-standing practice of Israel not to comment publicly on reports of military operations abroad. Many countries expressed concern over the incidents and warned of an escalation of the situation in the Middle East.
Tehran: "Attack not worth mentioning"
For the time being, the government in Tehran has no interest in doing so. Foreign Office spokesman Nasser Kanaani emphasized on Monday with regard to the attack in Isfahan: "The incident was a diversionary manoeuvre and not worth mentioning. We will therefore not pursue it any further."
