Hopes for defeat
Rushdie: Trump worse for second term
The writer Salman Rushdie (76) has expressed fears that a second term in office for Donald Trump as US president could be worse than the first. "I think the impact would be very big and very negative," said Rushdie at a roundtable discussion in London, which he joined online. However, he was optimistic and believed that Trump would not win.
However, he also believed this when Trump was running against Hillary Clinton. He was wrong back then, so he shouldn't be trusted.
Rushdie: "Everything he talks about is revenge"
"I think he would be worse the second time around because he would be unleashed and vengeful," Rushdie said. "Everything he talks about is revenge." That's a bad political program, he said, and not what you'd expect from the person in the White House.
Author calls on young people to vote
In New York, people had known about Trump long before he ran for office. "Everyone knew he was an idiot and a liar," said Rushdie. America, unfortunately, had to learn the hard way. "I just hope they don't fall for it again." Rushdie called on young people to vote in the US presidential election in November. They should not make the mistake of not going to the polls. "Because you'll regret it for the next four years."
At the talk in London's Southbank Centre, Rushdie presented his new book "Knife", in which he deals with an attack on him and its consequences. A man had critically injured the author at an event in the USA in 2022.
