Revenge!
Ruud wins Barcelona final against Tsitsipas
One week after his title in Monte Carlo, Greek tennis pro Stefanos Tsitsipas missed out on his next tournament win on clay. In a rematch of the previous week's final, the 25-year-old second-round opponent of Sebastian Ofner lost 5:7, 3:6 to Norway's Casper Ruud on Sunday. Thanks to the successful revenge in the final, the 25-year-old, like Tsitsipas, was able to celebrate the biggest of his eleven ATP tournament victories to date.
The focus at the tournament was also on the comeback of Spanish star Rafael Nadal (37), who was knocked out in the second round after a forced break of more than three months. His compatriot Carlos Alcaraz (20), the defending champion in Barcelona, had to withdraw from the tournament due to an injury to his right arm. In Munich, the German Jan-Lennard Struff triumphed for the first time on the ATP Tour with a 7:5, 6:3 against the American Taylor Fritz.
The action continues next week with a combined women's and men's event in Madrid. Ofner is guaranteed a place in the main event of the Masters 1000 tournament, while Dominic Thiem will have to try his luck in the qualifiers.
