Kenyan victories in the London Marathon

While Kenyan runners remained winless in the Vienna Marathon, they provided the highlights in London. In the men's race, Alexander Mutiso triumphed in 2:04:01 hours, 14 seconds ahead of the 41-year-old, three-time Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele from Ethiopia. 

Just over half an hour earlier, Kenyan Olympic marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir had set a world record in an all-women's race in 2:16:16.

The 30-year-old beat the record set in 2017 by her compatriot Mary Keitany, also in London, by 45 seconds. However, the fastest female marathon runner remains Tigst Assefa, who finished second in the English capital. The Ethiopian set the world record for a race with a mixed field last September in Berlin in 2:11:53.
