“My pawns”: Hummels taunts PL clubs
While two German Champions League representatives, FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, made it through to the semi-finals, Manchester City and Arsenal came away empty-handed. In view of this, Mats Hummels couldn't resist a little side-swipe in the direction of the island.
"Good harvest this week, fellow farmers," the BVB defender tweeted maliciously on Friday. The background: while the Premier League enjoys a reputation as the strongest league in the world, the Bundesliga is often derided in England as the "Farmers League".
The fact is, however, that there are two German teams in the last four. And English teams? Well ...
A reminder of 2013
Should Dortmund beat Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich beat Real Madrid in the semi-finals, there would be a repeat of the 2013 Champions League final. Back then, the venerable Wembley Stadium was also the venue for the final of the premier class, with Bayern winning 2:1.
